Broadway Gallery invites you to get angry
Guy Morris
Calypso Apocalypse is a provocative exploration of the tensions shaping our collective consciousness in a world overwhelmed by information. This new body of work explores the impact of relentless new cycles, misinformation, and the media’s portrayal of global crisis. Themes of war, immigration, climate change, political unrest, and the divisive forces of capitalism are examined and challenged by artist Guy Morris. Through his playful and somewhat dark humoured work, the exhibition invites us to reflect on the promise and dreams we are sold, and urges us to reconsider the true cost of them.
Guy Morris is a Fine Art Graduate from Northumbria University who currently lives and works in Aylesbury. His work often sits between reverie and irreverence as he seeks to create a visual language to help understand the world around him. Seemingly throw away comments are painstakingly (and literally at times) carved out of materials to highlight issues of conflict and proportionality between the everyday, the personal and the global. Often asking “What really matters?” Themes surrounded by social and political unrest, human existentialism, conflict and consumerism punctuate his work. All of this is done with a certain levity whilst questioning what it means to be a human living in today’s complex times.
