Nigel Grimmer
Analogue Disruptions
- Fri 10 Feb 2023 9:00 – Sun 26 Mar 2023 17:00
Nigel Grimmer’s exhibition at the Broadway Gallery will be the artist’s largest presentation of his ongoing series ‘Analogue Disruptions’ to-date. Nigel was selected to receive one of the 2022 Letchworth Open bursaries and will exhibit work alongside Emma Phillips and Tabitha Wilson.
Nigel has been investigating queer self-representation within social media, specifically within dating apps and Instagram. Through obscuring the model’s face, he sets out to critique photographic history and traditional practices. Nigel wraps photographs in found fabrics, overlays stickers, sweets and sculptural elements, that echo in solid form the virtual patterns and emojis that are found in mobile apps. Each seeking to emphasise how manipulated seemingly natural portrait are and how fleeting photographs have become.
